Kamloops Family Eco-Village
The Plan
- Families sign on to be co-operative members of the Eco-Village purchasing a share for $5000.
- Once a property is secured construction will begin to take place in the following order:
- Well drilled (see well guideline)
- Pasture land fenced for cattle, dairy cows and sheep (see livestock guidelines)
- Temporary housing established for our pioneer families (see trailer guidelines)
- Coop built for free range chickens (see chicken guidelines)
- Permaculture planning commences (this to be developed further upon securing a site)
- Permanent Housing planning commences (this to be developed further upon securing a site)
- Foundations… groundbreaking party.
The Goals
- To raise enough funds for a down payment on a suitable property. For more information on the co-operative’s property requirements click here.
- To begin work to establish a sustainable small scale farming operation based on the principles of Joel Salatin, Fukuoka and Bill Mollison.
- To run a co-operative that focuses on providing it’s members and outside community with access to whole, healthy traditional nourishing foods.
- To realize the dreams of it’s members in creating a positive and healthy lifestyle in which to raise their families.
The Projects
These things don’t just happen. This will only come to life after many hours of planning, hard work and putting our heads together pooling our resources. Members having knowledge or experience in the following areas who could lend their expertise while maintaining an open mind and heart are invaluable:
- Pasture management & Salatin farming methods
- Permaculture, composting, soil creation
- Traditional gardening
- Naturalist or Herbalist level knowledge of plants
- Dairying
- Basic construction of chicken coops, solar dehydrators, compost toilets and misc other small projects
- Foundation construction – in particular stone foundation
- Electrical knowledge / Constructing solar panels
- Plumbing experience and water quality analysis
- General Labour and Handiness
- Knowledge of Building Codes and practices
- Organizational Committee with the ability to actually get stuff done!
- Sourcing Materials – cheap or free folks we can find anything
